Impact

The psycho-social Health approach is developed for helping in situations of trauma and stress. The psychosomatic support approach includes an action frame, mechanisms, and different activities that project people in distressing and difficult situations, and provides them with positive human relations helping to restore their sense of self-respect and ability to overcome anxiety and despite.

The specific objectives of psycho-social heath programs are to reduce the impact stress and trauma has on the individual and to strengthen individual and community coping mechanisms and healing processes.

There are two types of disasters: manmade disasters and natural disasters. The manmade disasters can be controlled by implementing different laws. But the natural disasters are only controlled though proper planning of different organizations and government sectors. And this area Muslimabad Union Counsel Tarnab District Charsadda is greatly affected by natural disaster. After flood, people of Tarnab are suffering from a variety of psychological problems which greatly make their life more miserable. This is one of the poor area of Khyber Pukhtoon Khawa, where the main problem which is greatly identified that the people of Tarnab have no proper source of income. Majority of the people are unemployed and they are suffering from many economic, social, psychological and health problems. Most of the people have no awareness about the mental and psychological health.

At Tarnab (Basic Health Unit) BHU many of the patients come with different medical and psychological problems. With regular follow up sessions many of the patients cured and now are happy and know how to cope with stressful and difficult situations. Here is few success stories of patients with psychological problems.

 

 

 

 

 Case History # 1

Name:Sumira

Father/Husband Name:Murtaza Khan

Age:     20

Education:       religious education only

Location:Gango, Tarnab District Charsadda

Problem started from: 8 Months

Beginning and Problem identification:

The identified psychological problems during screening are headache, aggression, depression and isolation.

Family Information:

There family consist of 9 family members. 5 brothers and 1 sister. Parents died last year. Brothers are earning hand of the family.

Personal Information:

Patient is a hard working girl. After the death of her parents she developsthe entire above psychological problem. Before the disaster she was very active and social and takes part in every step of life and enjoys it.

Support:

Counselling sessions start with sumira on weekly basis. Total 7 follow up sessions were taken and after 3follow up session’s patient reported change in her behaviour and she is taking part in social activities. She cured 85%.

Method:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Behavioural Modification Plans Method are adopted at Tarnab BHU for counselling of patient.

Beginning and Problem identification:

The identified psychological problems of patient during screening are low self-esteem, headache, social withdrawal and sadness.

Family Information:

There family is consisting of mother, father, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Her birth order is 5th. Father is earning hand of the family. There family economic status is low.

Personal Information:

At the age of 12 she leaves the school due to transport problem. Before the disaster she was very social and like gossip with friends and madrassa.

Support:

Total 6 counselling sessions were taken with client on weekly basis and after few counselling sessions her behaviour was changed. She cured 80%.

Method:

Client Centred Therapy, Family therapy and behavioural modification plans adopted at Tarnab BHU for counselling of patient.

The identified psychological problem of patient during screening is crying easily, appetite change, anger and depression.

Family Information:

The family consist of husband, wife and 4 children. Her husband is the earning hand of the family but he is also suffering from chronic illness.

Personal Information:

The patient is a housewife and hasa very good relation with husband and in-laws. But after the disaster her behavior change and she become very aggressive.

Support:

Counselling start with patient on weekly follow up sessions. After 4 regular sessions she feels change in her aggressive behaviour. Total 7 sessions were taken with the patient. She cured 85%.

The identified psychological problems of patient during screening are sleep problem, vague aches, anxiety and fear of flood.

Family Information:

The family consist of husband, wife and 2 children. Her husband is the earning hand of family.

Personal Information:

The patient was very active and hard working women. Her behavior with her family was very warm and good. Her husband is strict by nature. She was very active, social and like family gathering before disaster.

Support:

Counselling start with client on weekly basis and after 3 counselling sessions the behavior and attitude of Gul_e_Zia show some positive changes and she again takes part in social activities and also her vague aches reduce. She takes 5 regular follow up sessions and she cured 80%.
