Event: World Polio Day

Saaya Association organized a seminar to mark polio day on 24th October 2013 at Pak Continental Hotel Islamabad with the support CHEF International and ICCO under the umbrella of Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Network Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by various persons with disabilities; NGO’s working on disabilities and academicians.

Prof. Mohammad Daud Khan was trained as a doctor in Peshawar, Pakistan and as an ophthalmologist in the United Kingdom. After 32 years of service in Peshawar, he retired from government service in April 2009. However he continues to serve as the Chairman of Comprehensive Health and Education Forum International (CHEF International), a nongovernmental organization (NGO) with a commitment to making a difference in general health, education and cross disability in Pakistan and other developing countries.

Prof. Khan has served as a teacher at Khyber Medical College and Postgraduate Medical Institute Peshawar since 1977 and has made major contributions to teaching, training and evaluation in ophthalmology throughout Pakistan and other developing countries. He has also served on the editorial boards of eight ophthalmic journals.

During the last two years of his service, Prof. Khan served as the Founder Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University.

He has played a key role in humanitarian work in Pakistan and other developing countries. He has been on the Board of Trustees of Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust since 1984. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Khyber Eye Foundation.

He served as a National Coordinator and Chairman of the National Committee for Prevention of Blindness in Pakistan for 14 years, and was responsible for organizing and supervising Pakistan’s second National Survey on Blindness and Visual Impairment in 2001-2003, which was conducted with the help of the World Health Organization (WHO), International Centre for Eye Health, and a number of international NGOs.

Prof. Khan has served as an advisor to the WHO since 1994. Prof. Khan also served as a Councilor and President of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), Councilor of the Afro-Asian Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan, Vice President of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, Eastern Mediterranean Region and Vice President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. In addition, Prof. Khan served as a member of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) for six years.

Prof. Khan has been a recipient of many national and international awards, including: President of Pakistan Pride of Performance Award, President of Pakistan OSP Ramzan Ali Syed Gold Medal, APAO Jose Rizal Gold Medal, ICO Duke Elder International Award, SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology Lifetime Achievement Award and APAO, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan Prevention of Blindness Awards.

Event: Experience Sharing Workshop

Venue : Hotel MetropoleMurree

The goal was a good learning opportunity for CHEF International to learn from partner organizations and stressed on the future collaboration of joint venture on disability specific initiatives and contribute towards the establishment of rights based inclusive society for all.

A key note speech was delivered by Mr. Sebastian Justin from ICCO &KiA. He thanked all the partner organizations for their keen participation in all the training and also threw light on the importance of disability issues in disaster management. He mentioned that ICCO &KiA take disability as a cross cutting theme and is committed to mainstreaming disability based on human rights based approach.

 

Mr. Atif Sheikh, President Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP), also delivered a key note speech on the role of disabled people organizations (DPOs) in disaster risk reduction. He thanked CHEF International and ICCO &KiA for taking the initiative of preparing partner organizations for inclusive emergency response which is the dire need of time. Mr. Atif Sheikh also stressed upon the leadership of persons with disabilities and DPOs. The involvement of DPOs in DRR planning will contribute to improved inclusive practices. He also stress on the need of replicating the initiative of CHEF International with DPOs.

  • Joint ventures on disability specific projects.
  • Establishment of network on disability inclusive disaster risk reduction which can also contribute to the strengthening of existing networks working for the same cause.
  • Sharing of information and resources in future.

Event  : Seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction Day

Venue : NishtarHall,Peshawar

8th October recalls us the precious lives we lost in the deadly 2005 earthquake which shook the northern areas of Pakistan. 
The economic losses suffered due to the devastating earthquake were to the tune of around US $ 6.0 billion.

CHEF International raise the profile of disaster risk reduction. It also encourages people and governments to participate in building more resilient communities and nations.

 

 

 

 

Event :World Cerebral Palsy Day

Venue : Al-Farabi Special Education Center, Islamabad

Date : 2nd October, 2013

CBID Network celebrates World Cerebral Palsy Day on 2nd October, 2013 in collaboration with CHEF International and Helping Hand, the ceremony was observed in Al-Farabi Special Education Center, Islamabad where a large number of Children and Adults with Cerebral Palsy participated. The representatives from NGOs, INGOs and government officials attended the seminar where former DG Special Education Mr.KhalidNaeem and Present DG Special Education Ms.Ghayoor Sultana graced the occasion with their valued presence.
