In order to enhance capacities of the communities for preparedness, for coping and for recovery a workshop was held in Kobe, Japan from 1st —3rd November, 2010 to integrate disaster risk reduction in development planning, it was recommended to formulate three Urban Disaster Risk Reduction (UDRR) regional groups namely Asia, MENA (Middle East & North Africa) and Latin America and to hold a workshops on DRR in each Region with the support of Research Center for Urban Safety and Security (RCUSS), KOBE University, Japan.
Comprehensive Health and Education Forum (CHEF) International in collaboration with RCUSS, Kobe University Japan and Rescue 1122 organized a workshop in Islamabad, from 2nd To 5th May, 2011, Delegates from USA, Japan, China, Philippines, Bangladesh, Turkey and Syria participated in this International workshop to give their reflection on UDRR lesson learnt from the two major disasters and their recoveries and preparedness for future disasters in Pakistan and in the region. Participants from national & international NGO’S, DPO’S, CBO’S and government institutes also actively participated in this event.
The objectives of this workshop were to enhance the disaster preparedness, to review the lesson learnt from 2005 earthquake, 2010 floods are disaster risk reduction system of other countries.
Participants also visited the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods affected areas.
The workshop ended with a ceremony of declaration signing by CHEF international, Kobe University Japan and Rescue 1122. The signatories agreed and committed themselves to work towards the implementation of DRR vision.
