PIRS Conducts Two-Day Orientation and Mobility Training for Students and Faculty

On 24th and 25th May 2025, the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) successfully conducted a two-day Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training session designed to enhance the practical skills and understanding of students and faculty in supporting individuals with visual impairments. This training served as a vital component in promoting independent mobility, safety, and dignity for persons with visual disabilities.

The program combined theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations, focusing on the use of mobility aids such as white canes, sighted guide techniques, and spatial orientation strategies. Participants actively engaged in simulated navigation exercises across indoor and outdoor settings to gain hands-on experience in guiding visually impaired individuals through different environments.

Led by experienced trainers in the field of visual rehabilitation, the sessions also explored inclusive approaches in academic and clinical practice. Faculty members gained valuable insights into creating more accessible learning environments, while students received foundational training critical for their future roles as compassionate and competent rehabilitation professionals.

This initiative reflects PIRS’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive education, professional excellence, and a supportive learning environment that meets the needs of all individuals, especially those from marginalized and underserved communities.
