PIRS Unveils Cutting-Edge Optical Lab on International Day of Assistive Technology

On the occasion of the International Day of Assistive Technology, celebrated on 4th June 2025, the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) marked a significant milestone by opening the doors to its newly established, fully equipped Optical Lab. This modern facility, made possible through the generous support of Sightsavers Pakistan, reflects a shared vision to strengthen the role of assistive technology in transforming lives especially in the field of eye care. Designed with students and future practitioners in mind, the lab offers a hands-on learning environment where they can train on advanced diagnostic tools and real-world dispensing equipment, preparing them for the challenges of modern optometric practice.

The atmosphere at the inauguration was filled with a sense of pride and progress as key leaders Ms. Munazza Gillani, Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Mr. Sohail Ayaz, CEO of CHEF International, and Dr. Farrukh, Executive Director of PIRS gathered to celebrate this achievement. Their presence underscored the strong partnerships that fuel initiatives like this, which not only uplift academic standards but also extend quality eye care services to those who need them most. With this Optical Lab, PIRS takes a meaningful step toward bridging the gap between education and service delivery, ensuring that even the most underserved communities benefit from skilled professionals and accessible care.
